Side effects

Clinical trials

In a clinical trial that was done by Firouzi et al on 136 patients with diabetes type 2, Probiotic with lactobacillus acidophilus, lactobacillus lactis, lactobacillus casei, bifidobacterium longum, bifidobacterium bifidum, and bifidobacterium infantis strains, was administered for 12 weeks and the results showed significant decrease in fasting insulin, insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) and HbA1c In a trial done on patients with pregnancy diabetes, lactobacillus acidophilus, lactobacillus casei, and bifidobacterium bifidum were administered for 6 weeks. The results showed positive effects on fasting blood sugar control, insulin level in serum, hemostasis factors HOMA-IR (insulin resistance) and HOMA –β (pancreas β cell function). significant decrease in triglycerides and VLDL in patients’ blood were observed (Karamali et al).
Clinical trials done by Taghizadeh et al showed that using probiotic containing bacillus coagulans for 9 months in pregnant women significantly decrease serum insulin and increase quantitative insulin sensitivity check index.
In another investigation it was concluded that consuming synbiotic bread that contained bacillus coagulans for 8 weeks significantly decreased serum insulin level by affecting insulin metabolism in diabetic patients (Tajabadi Ebrahimi, M et al).
Also, in a study conducted on 70-35, 62-year-old diabetic patients, it was shown that consuming food that contained bacillus coagulans for 6 weeks had significantly decrease serum insulin level and hs-CRP and increased glutathione plasma level and uric acid (Asemi et al).
